China Records Project Miscellaneous Personal Papers Collection, 1834-1973 (inclusive).

The papers include biographical information, correspondence, diaries and journals, writings, printed material, tape recordings, artifacts and maps. The medical, educational and evangelical work of both men and women missionaires in China is reflected in the material. Social issues such as foot binding, opium reform, education of women, and child labor are also touched upon. The material is particularly valuable for the descriptions of daily missionary life and work which it provides. Personal accounts of some political events such as the Boxer Rebellion in 1900 and the Communist takeover of 1950 are given. Included in the collection are the transcripts of interviews with 43 former China missionaries, conducted by the China Missionaries Oral History Project of the Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, California.
